Alex
His mother, having been placed in breeding, yielded her first chick, Alex. He is now 7 years old, and blooming with his adult, male colors. A good talker and very playful, Alex can spend hours chasing a plastic ball or other small object all over a table or rug.
Alex contributes to our programs by allowing us to show him off and teach that he is the largest of all the parakeet species. Children and adults alike enjoy the history behind his kind. In the 800's b.c., Alexander the Great, ruler of ancient Europe, went on a mission to India. After discovering these beautiful, majestic parakeets in the wild, he ordered his soldiers to capture some and bring them back to Europe. Of course, being the 'great' man that he was, he named this species after himself, thus the "Alexandrine" Parakeet.
