Orko

Orko Orko is a 18-year-old male Moluccan cockatoo, and the star of the aviary..literally. Orko is known far and wide, even around the world. He has been the topic of discussion and awe for many a person lucky enough to find out about him.

Raised at a large, prestigious zoo in the United States, he was accidentally injured by another bird at age 4. As a result, he became frightened of most birds and had to be kept separate from the other birds in the aviary. After being permanently separated from the other birds and visitors, he began to pluck his feathers out. After 2 years of this behavior, and no positive response to rehabilitation, Orko's handler was given permission to place him with a breeder he knew personally. Obviously, if he were afraid of other birds, he would not work in breeding. After several years with the breeder, he was given to us. We have had him the longest of all of his previous owners, and he is a permanent resident here.

Orko's stardom began by entertaining school children and elderly citizens in rest homes we visited. You see, Orko is an accomplished entertainer, performing his own version of the dance, hopping like a bunny, galloping like a horse, and riding up and down on a person's arm and squealing as if he were on a roller coaster ride.

His most recent achievement was when his video won the $10,000 prize on an American TV show, America's Funniest Home Videos. Little does he know that he is ultimately responsible for bringing in the funds to complete our first free flight aviary for his bird companions.

Completely oblivious to his accomplishments, Orko continues to WOW people everywhere he goes. People have begged to purchase him, which is not a possibility, as he is not for sale for ANY price.
