Tango

Tango Tango is a 15 year old, male Citron Crested cockatoo. He was originally a woman's pet, but eventually was placed in a breeding facility. Just prior to his going into breeding, he lost his right foot, and two toes on the left foot. This was NO accident. It was a deliberate case of negligence. You see, Tango and the other breeder birds at this facility, were left outdoors in the winter with no heat or shelter than a single light bulb, a nest box and a wind break around each cage. Tango lost his foot and toes to FROSTBITE!

Upon arriving at the refuge, Tango was extremely fearful. After 24 hours we opened his cage, and out he flew. After wrapping him in a towel, he was held close for some time. As he relaxed, the towel was loosened. Surprisingly, he remained in the handler's lap, uncovered, for wing clipping. He has remained a tame, loving yet shy bird, ever since.
